Moena Val di Fassa is the most populous centre of the Fassa valley and stays in a beautiful valley with Mountains all round, like the Latemar group, the Valacia and the Costalunga. The village has a few fractions that are Sorte, Someda and Forno, for its beauty and the harmony of the nature around her Moena is called the fairy of the dolomites. The communality, of Ladin Culture and language, has a long tradition of independence, as so for centuries the Mountain community manage in autonomy its assets, that where in large part the woods of the area, pastures and the activities of farmers and craftsman. Moena Val di Fassa is a village very well taken cared off from an architectural point of view, with its nice shops and its historical centre. The church of San Vigilio is very characteristic, with its bell-tower in gothic style, inside the building there are different art works of the Moena painter Valentino Rovisi, who belonged to the school of the Tiepolo. Close by can be seen the antique church of San Volfango, of the year 1025 with wall paintings of the 15th century and a very valuable baroque wood ceiling, an opera of an other countryman Giovanni Guadagnini. |
From a few years it has rediscovered the ladin gastronomy tradition and hosts some festivals very well known, like the one that takes place in September, with the title Autumn tastes and in the Winter at dinner with king Laurino. Beside these new activities during the Summer you can go walking, with many levels of difficulties, or you can go on one of the many Mountain bike tracks. A date not to be lost for the cyclist is the Rampilonga, which in its last edition has had five-thousand people who took part.
The Winter gives to the lovers of the skiis and of the snowboards and at only five minutes from the town centre, the Lusia and the San Pellegrino area. Dipt in a wonderful scenery, they are joint to the Three Valleys area (Bellamonte and Falcade) with amongst 100 kilometres of slopes and 26 lifts. For who prefers cross-country skiing: the centre cross-country Alochet offers you long slopes which passes through the woods and the views of the San Pellegrino pass. Also Val di Fassa is part of the Dolomiti Superski circuit.
